Background:

Lord of Life is my first official teaching position! I live in Friendswood, TX. Although, it took a long time for me to get here!  I originally studied theater in Green Bay, WI. Before I began teaching, I was a flight attendant for Midwest Airlines.  I had also been a live-in nanny for five children in Maryland and Vermont.

Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Martin Luther College (New Ulm, MN)

State Teaching License: Minnesota

Current Position:
  • 2nd - 4th Grade Teacher
  • Music Teacher

Personal Philosophy on Teaching:
My greatest privilege is being able to integrate God’s Word into not only each subject, but into the way we look to Jesus as a role model for the way we live our lives. The Law and Gospel is the purest philosophy there is. As for mere human role models, aside from my own personal preferences, the two books I’ve adapted most from are Alfie Kohn’s Punished by Rewards and Jim Faye’s. My philosophy on reading, as encouraged at Martin Luther College, has been the balanced approach. I teach as many concepts in Reading and Phonics from actual literature as I can, with a small number of lessons focused on isolated sounds and word patterns. I model concepts and have them practice with a variety of activities. I try to teach in “real life experiences” when applicable.

Favorite Bible Passage:
I have spent much of my life trying to figure out what God wanted from me.  The following passage has helped me tremendously:  "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
